Some patients may receive a ‘debridement’ or general cleaning as a preliminary periodiontal (gum) treatment, to facilitate diagnosis, or in conjunction with their dental restorative treatment, especially if they have not been followed closely by a dental hygienist and/or their teeth have moderately-severe buildup.
